PGM 066R : "BEYOND THE STARGATES"

PGM NOTE : a deep, deep space journey

FEED DATE : 1-25-08

INTRO: This week we continue our retrospective series "25 YEARS
IN SPACE," celebrating our 25th year of national broadcasting.
We've selected 25 programs that give an overview of the HEARTS of
SPACE series and our style of ambient, space and contemplative
music. We kick off the series with three shows this month, then
one a month after that.

On this program from 1985, a real deep space journey called
BEYOND THE STARGATES. Attention: Spacefans, prepare yourself
for some serious traveling. We set the scene with this rare
invocation by Japanese spacemusic composer STOMU YAMASHTA.
The journey begins with BRIAN ENO's mythic "PROPHECY THEME"
and additional music from the soundtrack of the film DUNE. Then,
we journey onward with the eerie sounds of an aeolian WIND HARP,
and continue with MICHAEL STEARNS' mysterious and powerful music from LYRA: SOUND CONSTELLATION. In the deep spacefields beyond, we drift through distant galaxies with music by TIMOTHY WILLIAM HELLEM and BRIAN ENO. We return from our journeys with spacemusic from Germany by the group CLUSTER, once again with BRIAN ENO.

A journey BEYOND THE STARGATES...on this 25th Anniversary edition of Hearts of Space.

I just stumbled across this blog via a google search for The Wind Harp: Song from the Hill; United Artists UAS-9963, a record I was fortunate enough to find a copy of in the early 90s, only knowing of it because I taped this particular broadcast off the radio waaaay back in the early 80s. Thanks Steven & Anna for producing such a great show. You are the original ambient pioneers of the airwaves.

I was recently listening to a classic HOS program called "The Pulse" that I had recorded back in the summer of 1986 and was trying to purchase the recordings I heard on that show. I found all but Timothy William Hellem's "The Great Spirit" which is now out of print. My search led me to this blog. I hope to find a used copy someday. If anyone knows of an available copy, please post!
