INTRO: Steamy jungles, exotic birds, trackless deserts, and
trance-like rhythms. Just a few of the sights and sounds that
come to mind when we think of the music on this program. On this
edition of HEARTS of SPACE called EQUATOR, we travel along the
sun-drenched midsection of the planet...in search of the
spacemusic of heat.

PGM 773 : "CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS"
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
PGM NOTE : slow music for those fast summer nights
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
FEED DATE : 7-21-06
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=

INTRO: What's fast on the surface, but slow and deep underneath?
It's not a trick question, rather, an attribute of those short,
balmy summer nights we're having. Underneath the superficial
activity, there's a deeper rhythm, one scientists will tell you
is tuned to the cycles of light and dark. On these long days
and short nights, plants, animals, insects, and humans all
adapt — right down to the genes in our cells.
On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, we adapt and mirror
those rhythms with summer night sounds...on a program called
CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS.

PGM 772 : "ANJALI"
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
PGM NOTE : Indian music ~ slow, sensual, and reverent
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
FEED DATE : 7-14-06
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=

INTRO: The Anjali mudra, with hands held together at the heart,
is a gesture of reverence, benediction and salutation, a perfect
symbol of the devotional spirit at the heart of Indian music.
The drone, the steady tonk-a-tonk rhythm of the electronic tabla,
the familiar twang of the sitar, the curvilinear ornaments of
the voice, plus electronic bass and keyboards — are all signs of
an effort to bring the venerable traditions of Indian music into the
21st century.
This example comes from Holland, but it might have come from
almost anywhere. With its high musical skill, seductive sensuality
and devotional character, Indian music generates intense loyalty
and finds receptive listeners all over the world.
On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, another journey in
the contemporary Indian soundscape called ANJALI.

PGM 634R : "ENIGMATIC CHILDREN"
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
PGM NOTE : an electronic-classical-vocal fusion festival
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=
FEED DATE : 7-07-06
=--------------------------------------------------------------------=

INTRO: It takes a kind of iconoclastic genius to bring together
Gregorian Sacred Chant, a dance beat, and lyrics about the
Marquis de Sade into one wildly successful recording. For this
we have to acknowledge (though not necessarily thank) Romanian
producer MICHAEL CRETU and his ENIGMA project of 1990, which sold
millions and dominated dance-floors around the world for years.
To be fair, the original inspiration of orchestrating Gregorian
chant was by VANGELIS in his 1975 album HEAVEN AND HELL. But in
the wake of ENIGMA, artists and producers all over the world
have labored long and hard to discover the next addictive vocal
fusion sound.
On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, we've assembled some
of the progeny of this still influential project on a program
called ENIGMATIC CHILDREN.
