   INTRO: Autumn: a time of recession...a majestic, inexorable
   withdrawal of energy as the northern hemisphere retreats, by
   degrees, from the sun. It's a time of cooling, shrinking, ebbing,
   descending, darkening — of preparation for the challenges
   of winter.
      In music, it's the sound of smoky timbres, dissonant harmonies,
   descending progressions, slow suspensions — the sound of
   disengagement, retreat, escape.
