   INTRO: The long and inexorable road to spring sometimes requires
   an extra measure of patience. In California, the first blossoms
   appear early, bringing a precarious sense of hope, long before
   the winter storms have passed. Confined indoors, movement
   constrained, it's a good time for ambient music, with its
   sustained mood of intimacy, warmth, and gentle ecstasy.
