INTRO: Italian composer LUDOVICO EINAUDI has enjoyed a long
and very successful career in Europe, marked by a dozen albums,
fifteen film scores, hundreds of concerts and a retrospective
performance at the famous opera house La Scala in Milano.
Einaudi began in the 1970s as a student of Italian avant-garde
composer LUCIANO BERIO at the Conservatory of Milan. He
came to the U.S. on a scholarship in 1982, where he absorbed
the language of classical minimalism, American popular and
ambient music — and laid the foundations for his own warm,
delicate, melodic style.
Like fine Italian food, fashion and design, Einaudi's music has
a humanized opulence and sensual appeal. The elements are
simple and often repetitive; the effect is subtle, contemplative,
satisfying, even profound.
On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a LUDIVICO EINAUDI
retrospective called DIVENIRE. We have music from across his
career, including selections from STANZE, LE ONDE, I GIORNI,
EDEN ROC, our title album DIVENIRE or "Become," and his lush
soundtrack for the film SOTTO FALSO NOME.

INTRO: As we stream into the 21st century, the rich legacy of
Indian music continues to expand around the world.
Seen as a kind of exotic 'seasoning' when classical masters like
ALI AKBAR KHAN and RAVI SHANKAR came to the west in the
1950s, it survived its trendy status as a psychedelic curiosity in
the 1960s, and has gone on to influence several generations of
western musicians, from avant-garde and electronic, to devotional.
In an age of rapid innovation and stylistic change, Indian music
has proven to be amazingly durable due to its profound insight
into tone and rhythm...and use of the drone — a gravitational
center that keeps some of the world's best musicians in its orbit.

INTRO: Everyone loves a garden, but in the desert countries
gardens take on a whole other level of meaning. Precious and
rare in contrast to the rest of the environment, in ancient Persia
they became nothing less than a symbol of heaven on earth —
a sanctuary for rest, renewal, music and poetry.
On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we ride off across the
Middle Eastern desert soundscape in search of a GARDEN OF
DELIGHT.
